Research and development are key elements of the BGE’s work. The BGE exchanges information regarding the state and application of knowledge and technology in national and international cooperation projects, as well as participating in research projects at the national and international level.

Collaboration with the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in Potsdam

In April 2021, the BGE signed a framework cooperation agreement with the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in Potsdam. This collaboration will involve not only taking seismic measurements but also the three-dimensional visualisation of rock structures that are the target of exploratory activities. The work will be carried out using the GFZ technology platform “3D-Untertage-Seismik (3D-US Lab)” (external link), which allows the BGE and the GFZ to better cover current and future requirements for underground seismic measurements and to further develop them in a targeted manner.

The GFZ is Germany’s national centre for research into the solid earth.
